About Us

Prophet Hills Country Club began in 1959 when a group of Prophetstown residents desired a golf course and other recreational facilities for the community. Originally a private club, the original 90 members, local contractors, and volunteer groups worked together to build the first clubhouse pictured below.

The golf course was designed and laid out on an 82 acre trace by Walter G Brakeman, landscape architect of Lafayette, IL. The course is 3100 yards in length and par is 35. Designed for golfers of average skill, it is neither long nor difficult, but the hilly terrain makes the course interesting for both the beginning golfer and a challenge for the more experienced golfer. Its design is intended to minimize ball loss, eliminate shots into the sun, and favor golfers who slice the ball.

Tree-lined airways, sharp dog legs, and tricky greens provide a unique challenge while providing beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. “Prophet Hills has everything you would like to have in a golf course,” says course superintendent Leo Heaton.
